Quick Practical Solutions
Position Overview: We’re looking for an Intermediate Terrestrial Biologist to join our dynamic team — someone who’s passionate about wildlife, dedicated to environmental protection, and not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get out into the field in dynamic (and occasionally remote) locations! If you have the skills to lead biology projects and the right attitude to navigate our fun, fast-paced, and ever-changing consulting world, you could be the perfect fit for us! This role requires a professional with a strong background in biology and environmental consulting, specifically in environmental assessments and navigating the provincial and local environmental regulations. You will play a pivotal role in leading and delivering complex environmental projects, providing technical direction and mentorship to junior staff and working with clients and regulators.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage terrestrial and aquatic projects, including biophysical inventories, environmental assessments, reclamation and wildlife management.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to junior staff, as part of our collaborative team environment.
- Assist in preparing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables, meeting timelines and client needs.
- Apply solid terrestrial biophysical identification skills (wildlife, vegetation, aquatics and/or soils).
- Have experience in permitting and approvals for development.
- Communicate environmental requirements clearly to contractors and homeowners.
- Work in a dynamic consulting environment, with many different types of projects. We are small and nimble, so nobody is siloed into one area.
- Occasionally work in remote field locations, mostly work on southern Vancouver Island, and as far north as Campbell River and Tofino.
- Maintain a strong commitment to Corvidae’s core values of environmental protection integrity, respect and open communication.
Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in biology, environmental science, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in the environmental industry, with at least 5 years in environmental consulting.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience leading environmental projects at an intermediate level.
- Proven ability to develop, manage, and execute terrestrial wildlife components of environmental projects.
- Excellent technical writing and analytical skills, with the ability to solve problems and make informed decisions.
- Professional designation of R.P. Biol. and/or P.Ag (or qualification to achieve this designation).
- Experience (professional or volunteer) with fish, bird, wildlife, and vegetation assessments/surveys is a strong asset.
- Strong work ethic, solution-focused mindset, and a growth-oriented perspective.
- Ability to adapt to changing workloads, tasks, and project requirements.
- A good sense of humor and the ability to contribute to a positive team culture.
